About Us
Camping on CRIT Lands

What You’ll Need
The Colorado River Indian Reservation is within the Sonora Desert, and experiences extreme temperatures, rugged terrain, and sudden weather changes. If you aren’t prepared when coming out here, you may be in trouble! Here is a list of things to bring with you before you come and camp with us.
1. Water! It is recommended you bring 1 gallon of water per person per day when camping on CRIT.
2. Shelter. Make sure you have a tent, tarp, and the means to secure both tightly to the ground. The winds get strong here so make sure your tent is secure. We also recommend cover, or some kind of shade shelter to keep that desert sun off you.
3. Sun protection! It is recommended all campers carry wide brim hats, sunscreen and lightweight clothing. Cooling towels and bandanas are also a good thing to have.
4. Hiking boots and long pants. The desert has lots of things that can poke through tennis shoes and sandals. Strong hiking boots are best for protect and comfort and long pants do the same for your legs.
5. Toiletries. Be sure to bring all your bathroom essentials, including a shovel to properly dispose of human waste and hand sanitizer to stay clean.
6. Compass, cellphone and gps. Some areas on CRIT are fairly remote, so make sure you can find your way with these tools!
7. TELL SOMEONE WHERE YOU ARE GOING! People get lost all the time in the desert and it’s not a fun experience. No matter where you are planning to camp with out, it’s best to tell a friend or family member where you are going to be.
Where To Go
Camping is allowable anywhere on CRIT wildlands with exceptions. There is no camping on private property or specially designated areas. DON’T FEED THE WILDLIFE

We all want to enjoy the majestic and beautiful wildlife of the american southwest. CRIT is the proud home of some of the most amazing creatures on the planet, from mountain lions to gila monsters. In our efforts to keep wild animals wild, we ask that all campers, hikers, and outdoor enjoyers do not attempt to interact with wildlfie in any way. If you see a wild animal, remember the following;
1. DO NOT FEED THEM! Human food isn’t good for animals, and feeding wildlife can lead to dangerous encounters for both you and the animal.
2. DO NOT TOUCH THEM! These aren’t the adorable dogs at the park. Wild animals do not like to be touched. Attempting to pet wild animals may result in serious injury and put you at risk of disease.
3. BE RESPECTFUL! To you, this is a wonderful weekend getaway. To them, it’s home. Please, do not harass the wildlife.
